Embracing Web 2.0: Purposeful Change with Today’s Interactive Technology

Presented by: Mary E. Chase, Creighton University

You’ve heard the term “Web 2.0,” but do you know what it means for search in higher education? If you have been part of Web-based communities and hosted services – such as social networking sites, wikis and folksonomies — you have already experienced Web 2.0 technologies.  This is where you’ll find and connect with the next generation of students. Now, how will you utilize this technology to maximize enrollment?

It is my belief that Web 2.0 promotes more of an attitude than a technology. Colleges and universities can no longer force responses to recruitment efforts. We must try to predict future trends and anticipate needs, and then be prepared when our expectations become fact. We need to know how students use and respond to Web 2.0 technologies. Are you ready?
