Challenge

Gustavus Adolphus College has a proud heritage of delivering educational excellence and service. The marketing and admissions staff at Gustavus understands that maintaining a position of leadership and recognition is an ongoing challenge, and one that changes with the generations of students. With the projected declines in student age demographics in its regional market, Gustavus felt that it needed to be more creative in its message delivery and reach.

Solution

James Tower worked with the staff at Gustavus to identify the message and core audience for the interactive CD. The primary purpose of the CD was to more effectively communicate with prospective students about the Gustavus experience. The intent of the CD was to engage students with an exciting, interactive presentation of campus from a student’s perspective.

The CD's principle goal was to generate substantial interest in Gustavus so that students are driven to inquire further and eventually enroll. One of the plans was to release the CD at a recruiting event with a theme that would generate significant free press coverage.

Results

Gustavus received positive local and national recognition for the creativity of this campaign as a “Gustavus on a Stick” promotion at the 2004 Minnesota State Fair. Feedback has also been very positive regarding the CD content.

Existing Content

  • Gustavus provided script work and the existing admissions video.
  • Gustavus also provided the logo and color palette.

  • We handled the production of the CD.
  • We added script finishing to their content.
  • We created graphics and video content that are incorporated in the CD.
  • We designed the CD face graphics.
  • We duplicated a total of 20,000 CD-ROMs.
