Challenge
This organization that sponsors international athletic competitions and has a number of web sites, each with hundreds of pages of information that has to be kept up-to-date. For years, they had static web sites with no tools available to easily keep the site content
current. This committee wanted to be able to move information around and update the content of its sites as necessary, without having to understand Web programming. This need brought the organization to RedDot Web Content Management. After moving the sites into Web Content Management and training
its internal team, turnover occurred in the I.T. department and the organization was left without its RedDot-trained employees.
Solution
RedDot referred the committee to James Tower – one of only two RedDot Premium Partners in the country. RedDot told the committee that not only could James Tower provide the custom programming and technical expertise they needed regarding the RedDot product, but also
the creative design and direction for the web sites. James Tower started by looking at how the committee was using RedDot. James Tower discovered that it was only using the basic functions of RedDot – not realizing or utilizing the robust features and capabilities available. “We showed
the committee that RedDot was more than just content management,” said John Leddy, account manager for the project. James Tower worked side-by-side with the organization’s I.T. team to develop an internal search function, multiple templates, authorization and workflow processes, and
time-delayed publishing.
After enduring staff and process changes, the organization had finally found stability by partnering with James Tower. James Tower understood the committee’s business from the beginning, and that knowledge has been a reassuring constant for all involved.
Results
This organization’s initial goal was to be able to update its content, any time, any where. James Tower turned that goal into an accomplishment. The committee sponsored a winter event, and James Tower built one site in less than a third of the time it would have taken
them internally – and the site ran throughout the entire event without a single glitch. James Tower made it possible for the organization’s overseas correspondents to update the site from Italy, the location of the event. Correspondents weren’t subjected to time lost through
telephone and email communication about the latest developments in Italy. Instead, the correspondents could enter news and results, making the information available to web site visitors immediately.
One time-taxing activity for the organization was entering data for its Hall of Fame site. Before James Tower, it was necessary to enter the same data into the system three different times. James Tower showed the organization that by using RedDot, the committee could enter the information about its Hall of Fame athletes once, and then have that data searchable by name, sport, and/or year.
James Tower also worked on a site that was made up of potential speakers from the organization. The site allows companies, schools, and other groups to find former athletes who competed in the committee’s events for speaking engagements. James Tower built a database application that searches for speakers based on their fees, sports, locations, and/or other criteria.
